Recommended by the joint resident–Ville–Bell committee, the cell tower would have been located on rue Matte, approximately 645 metres west of montée Ryan, and built in 2026. Despite four years of work by the committee, Mayor Pascal De Bellefeuille’s administration rejected it earlier this year.
In brief: In April 2026, Mayor Pascal De Bellefeuille’s administration rejected the rue Matte site for the installation of the Bell cell tower, despite it having been recommended in October 2025 by the joint resident committee. Then, in September 2026, the Ville declined Les Amis’ invitation to reactivate this committee, choosing instead to negotiate alone behind closed doors with Bell toward the Gray Rocks option.
Why it matters: Brushing aside the work of a resident-Ville-Bell committee created in March 2021 under former mayor Luc Brisebois and excluding residents from discussions creates new impasses, delays access to reliable emergency coverage, and in our view illustrates the risk posed by a lack of sound governance. This exposes the Ville to costly litigation—as evidenced by the $3,509,669.22 lawsuit filed in court against the Ville on October 9, 2026, by the owners of the rue Matte property, a document of which Les Amis obtained a copy.
Key figures:
4 years: The duration of the resident–Ville–Bell joint committee process (2021–2025), followed by a public consultation compliant with federal regulations, which led Bell to submit the file to the Ville for approval, before the new administration set it aside.
Over 15 years: The time elapsed during which residents and over 3 million annual visitors have been waiting for reliable cell coverage in Mont-Tremblant.
What’s next: Resident concern is growing regarding the Gray Rocks option. During the October 19 council meeting, Pierre Jasmin (Association pour la protection de l’environnement du lac Ouimet) notably questioned the appropriateness of installing a telecommunications tower there and suggested holding a resident survey. Excluding residents from planning decisions reopens the door to lawsuits, challenges, and delays.
