We have asked the Ville to cap tax increases to restore equity among taxpayers

An update on our actions regarding property taxes for 2026:

March 5: Les Amis sent a letter to Municipal Council regarding property taxes increasing beyond 3.2% for over 40% of residents. Our analysis reveals substantial residential increases for many homeowners, occurring alongside decreases of approximately 20% for commercial properties.

March 6: At City Hall, our president Robert Boisjoli and board member Tom Poitras held a constructive meeting with Mayor Pascal De Bellefeuille and Deputy Mayor Catherine Drouin. We presented our analysis illustrating unacceptable inequities, including the fact that approximately 2,000 residences are facing property tax increases ranging from 10% to over 100%. Residential owners are absorbing 84% of all new tax revenue.

March 9: During the Municipal Council meeting, we detailed the scale of the inequity problem (over 2,000 owners facing hikes of more than 10%) while, at the same time, over 40% of residences will see a decrease in their tax bill. Consequently, we are proposing a concrete solution based on Articles 253.36 and following of the Loi sur la fiscalité municipale to grant a tax credit to any owner whose bill has increased by more than 5% compared to 2025.

March 10: We sent a follow-up letter to ensure we are working collaboratively on this vital issue for all citizens and are currently awaiting a response.

Our point of view: While the new assessment roll reflects the current market, the Ville’s application of it creates inequitable hikes ranging from 10% to 100%—a far cry from the “average” of 2.3% to 3.2% that was announced. This lack of consultation has created major distortions for many Mont-Tremblant taxpayers.

The Ville must show empathy: With a projected budget surplus of at least $5 million for fiscal year 2025, it has ample means to act. We are calling for the application of Articles 253.36 and following of the Loi sur la fiscalité municipale to grant a tax credit to every homeowner whose increase exceeds 5%. This concrete measure is essential to restore equity and protect citizens against these unjustified hikes.
