Property taxes: the Ville has the power to correct a deeply unfair situation

The first tax installment is due March 31. While the Ville has announced an average increase of 2.3% to 3.2%, the reality is quite different for a significant portion of the population: nearly 2,000 property owners are facing increases of over 10%. This situation is all the more striking given that nearly half of residential owners received tax cuts, and most business owners are benefiting from tax decreases of more than 20%.

The Loi sur la fiscalité municipale (LFM) provides cities with a tax capping mechanism to soften the blow of rising property values, and we have asked the Ville to make use of it. This issue affects many homeowners across all sectors.

Without immediate action, long-time residents risk being forced to sell their homes, driven out by exorbitant taxes.

We need your help! Click the button below to send an automated message to the Mayor and Municipal Council, demanding a 5% tax cap for all residents.
