On March 21, we sent a letter to every member of the council asking if they would support a 5% cap.
Here is the joint response received from the following councillors: Jean-Luc Trahan (Dist. 1), Billie-Jeanne Graton (Dist. 2), Joël Charbonneau (Dist. 4), Catherine Drouin (Dist. 5), and Mathieu Fleurant (Dist. 7). As a reminder, these officials ran under the Équipe Vision Mont-Tremblant banner last fall.
Their Position: They acknowledge that the new assessment has “significant impacts” that must be “examined seriously.”
Their Action: They have committed to formally requesting that the Mayor include Article 253.36 on the agenda for the next council meeting.
We also received a joint response from councillors Élise Léonard (Dist. 3), Mathieu Paquette (Dist. 6), and Patrick Léonard (Dist. 8), who were part of Équipe Ensemble Mont-Tremblant in the last municipal election.
Their Position: They are against the cap for 2026, claiming it would create an “unfair fiscal distortion.”
Their Action: They argue that those whose property wealth has grown must pay accordingly and propose waiting until 2027 for a budget review.
Mayor Pascal De Bellefeuille now has the opportunity to act. While he has not yet commented, we are counting on him to restore a minimum of equity among taxpayers and protect long-term resident families from disproportionate tax hikes. Once Équipe Vision Mont-Tremblant has officially placed Article 253.36 (LFM) on the municipal council agenda, the Mayor will have the chance to make a historic gesture to protect our community members against tax-driven displacement.
