2026 budget adoption

While we appreciate the considerable efforts of the entire finance department and elected officials in preparing this budget, the way it was presented raises some questions.

On January 29, the 2026 budget was unveiled the very evening of its adoption. How can citizens be expected to analyze millions of dollars in just a few minutes when the decisions have already been made?

The problem: citizen exclusion. Elected officials are making decisions on major financial issues without any prior public consultation.

However, other municipalities are doing it successfully: Bromont uses citizens’ committees, Saint-Zotique uses surveys in the fall, and Westmount presents its capital plan in advance. These Villes prioritize genuine dialogue.

Our request: We would like to see more public consultations aimed at discussing the budget, ahead of the vote on the 2027 budget. Mont-Tremblant’s exceptional wealth should be managed in partnership with those who fund it: the citizens.

In his closing remarks, Mayor Pascal De Bellefeuille seemed open to exploring new avenues to better prepare for the next three years.
