Surprise extraordinary meeting tomorrow morning on the controversial LAGO project

This large excavation at LAGO (lac Tremblant) was originally supposed to be home to a 70-decibel car elevator authorized by the Ville—but it was never actually installed.
.

The big picture: The Mont-Tremblant City Council has called a sudden extraordinary meeting for tomorrow morning, Thursday, June 18, at 8:00 a.m. On the agenda: the highly controversial LAGO project (lac Tremblant).

Why it matters:

Total blackout: This meeting will not be live-streamed or recorded. No minutes or transcripts of citizens’ questions will be kept.

Public bypassed: The Ville made no announcement on Facebook, via press release, or in its newsletter. The only way to find out was by manually checking the Séances des conseils section of the Ville’s website.

Fast facts:

Crushing debt: The LAGO project has been under CCAA protection since June 25, 2025, saddled with a $12,288,573.94 debt.

Court extension: On June 3, the Superior Court extended this protection until August 28, 2026.

Under the radar: Council is preparing to approve two critical requests (2026-PIIA-127 and 2026-PIIA-128) for residential and commercial access roads on rues Franceschini and Cuttle.

The catch: The agenda contains only a brief description; no supporting documents have been provided.

A look back: When Pascal De Bellefeuille was a municipal councillor for district 1, he voted to approve the LAGO project.

What we expect: We hope the mayor will be fully transparent and present the whole picture, including any costs borne by the Ville regarding LAGO and any project to be approved on rue Franceschini.

What’s next: Les Amis will publish a full summary of this extraordinary meeting’s events in our next newsletter.
