In Memoriam: Roger McCarthy

Our community lost a leader and a dear friend with the passing of Roger McCarthy, the former General Manager of Station Mont Tremblant.

Roger was a one-of-a-kind ski industry legend. In 1991, he moved from Whistler to lead the redevelopment of Station Mont Tremblant. Under his leadership, guest experience and employee relations improved dramatically. He left a truly amazing legacy for us all to enjoy: the resort added or upgraded seven major ski lifts and eight major ski runs, expanded the entire Edge ski area, redeveloped the entire resort village and more – all

between 1991 and 1997.

Relentless hard work and innovation by Roger and his team paid off by 1996, when Station Mont Tremblant, which had been a failing ski resort, became the #1 resort in eastern North America according to SKI Magazine.

After making a lasting impact on our community, Roger was promoted and served in various capacities at Intrawest and Vail Associates. He also had an advisory role during the Sochi Olympics before retiring to his beloved Whistler, BC.

Roger will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of working, skiing or simply having a conversation with him.

Many citizens immediately proposed ideas for Station Mont Tremblant to commemorate Roger’s contributions in some special way, such as:

Please let us know how you would like to see his contribution recognized by clicking here to complete our 30-second survey. We will share the results with the resort.

Any donations in Roger’s memory can be made to the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
